Romeo x Gold Luck / Al Capone / Matcho AA, due May 2018
I am crossing 2 relative "unknowns" in this pairing - but the individual sire and dam, their pedigrees and brief performance records - stack the odds in favour of a very good foal. I believe this will be the first ROMEO foal for North America.
The Sire: Romeo by Romanov / Wolkentanz / Wanderbursch II, 2012 - his quality proves that breeding is not a coincidence. His sire Blue Hors Romanov won many Championships as a young stallion in Denmark; was on the winning team at the European Championships 2013, Winner of Grand Prix Kür Aachen 2013, winner of Grand Prix Special in Drachten 2014, announced Danish Warmblood sire of the Year 2011; and, in 2016, he qualified for the Olympics in Rio with Hans Peter Meinderhoud.
Romeo’s dam SPS Wolke is graded with “9” in overall impression and was a Champion of the “Johan von der Decken-Shau” in Verden. In 2015, Wolke also received the prestigious title of “Elite Family” along with her two daughters State Premium mare Silberwolke and her 2-year-old Destano daughter. Romeo’s grand-dam is also SPS, by the dual talented mare-maker Wanderbursch II.
Originally directed at a competition career, Romeo developed so nicely that he was presented for licensing with both Denmark and Hanover – and warmly received. He won his 35 Day SPT in 2016, with a dressage score of 8.96, and had an excellent 14 day SPT in Verden in January 2017 – earning a “10” for interior qualities, and a “9” for rideability.
The Dam: With her beautiful big eyes, her expressive Hanoverian ears, and rich liver chestnut coat – Giada proved irresistible to me. I thank Jamie Lawrence for trusting me with Giada, to commence her life as a broodmare following a successful dressage career through second level, with scores ranging from 70% to 75%.
When I began breeding, I had much admired the US-based stallion “Gold Luck”, with his Grundstein / Absatz pedigree. He was a consistent producer of striking youngsters and competitive dressage horses through the late 90’sand early 2000’s. Giada also has a wonderful Hanoverian pedigree through her dam-line – Al Capone by the great Argentan, with Matcho AA and Lombard on the bottom, adding a touch of refinement. Key for me, Giada is possessed of the two most important qualities I seek in a broodmare: a gentle, trusting, nature and correct, quality movement.
